Who are you when you’re not defined by your work? How do you feel about yourself when you do not have the external validation of being a “provider”?
How do you even begin to process these questions when society is designed to only celebrate money and status as success? When you sit still and unravel the thread, are you genuinely happy with the decisions you’ve made, will you continue on this path?
I know how difficult it can be to sit still – when your life has been a series of very aggressive steps forward and tentative steps backward.
It’s easy to ask questions and use this time to work on your growth and personal development but it’s equally okay to allow yourself the pleasure of doing nothing – if you can. When you can.
The wisdom and discernment needed to distinguish which you need to lean on, will only come with time and experience.
Your value isn’t (only) tied to what you do or what you contribute. It is inherent. Inescapable.
More than anything, I hope we can heal the hurts of being overworked, the sacrifices – being away from our families and away from ourselves. Because let’s be honest, when do we have the time when we get spoon-fed the lie that anything that is self serving is egotistical and selfish?
Let’s close the distance between our head, heart and body. However you do it, it’s valid. I’ll see you on the other side.
Unclench your jaw.
Relax your shoulders.
Breathe.
